Trip to the Rose Playhouse, Bankside
The Rose Playhouse, Bankside www.roseplayhouse.org.uk
".....Is an archaeological site, near the site of the original Globe, but is not going to be excavated further until large amounts of money have been raised.
It's not exactly a tour, because it's a very small space. We will show you a film, narrated by Ian MacKellan. We will then talk about various aspects of the theatre and life at the time of The Rose (1587 to about 1602). Two of us will be in costume and we will dress Joan Alleyn.
We will talk briefly about what artifacts were found when The Rose was excavated.
There will be a chance to perform a short scene from a play, using cue scripts to give an idea of how actors worked. This will be followed by a traditional jig for you all to join in."The date of the visit will be Tuesday July 29th and the cost should be £10. As numbers are limited I would be grateful if you could register your interest soon.
