Wellbeing tour around London Blossom Garden, in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

On November 28th seven of us had a wellbeing walk around London Blossom Garden in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. We were shown round by an experienced Park Champion Community Guide. Apart from the blossom garden ( best seen in the spring) we saw the wetlands, Alfreds Meadow, various fauna and wildlife and learned many interesting things about the area.

St Anne's in Limehouse

Our latest gallery visit was to St Anne's in Limehouse where
we were treated to a wonderful guided tour of this famous Hawksmoor
church, it's history and the work being planned to restore it. On the
upper floor we also visited a display of modern tapestries depicting
life in and around the local area. We were treated to tea and biscuits
by Peter (our guide) and then made our way to the Yurt Cafe for lunch. A
great day out.

Forest Gate Freedom Walk

Forest Gate Freedom Walk

On Friday April 25th, twelve members of Newham’s U3a, went on a Forest Gate Freedom Walk led by Peter Ashan. We were joined by three people who work with Peter in his various voluntary groups based in Waltham Forest.
The walk started at Forest Gate Youth Zone and finished at Clapton Community Football Club. We stopped at various points of historical interest along the way including, the mural of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the site of the Underground Club ( featured in one of Forest Gate’s murals), Earlham Grove and Walter Tull. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and interesting morning. Apologies I was so engrossed I only took a photo at the end at Clapton football club.

I have also included a link below which introduces Peter and a few of the things we saw today.

We organised a visit to TwoTemple Place on February 5th.

This is William Waldorf Aster’s beautiful house overlooking the Embankment. It is open house between end of January until April when it will be housing a photographic exhibition - Lives Less Ordinary.
