New Discussion Group at Newham U3A

Ever wondered how a painting can speak scripture? Or how a biblical passage might inspire brushstrokes and symbolism?

Join us for Words and Pictures, a welcoming new group where we’ll explore the rich dialogue between religious art and the Bible.

Together, we’ll look at masterpieces like Duccio’s Annunciation in the National Gallery and reflect on the passages they’re based on.

Expect lively discussion, shared insights, and thoughtful questions like:

  • How does the painting interpret the text?
  • What symbols has the artist chosen—and why?
  • What were the intentions of the painter and the writer?

No prior knowledge needed—just curiosity and an openness to explore. There’ll be a little tutor input to set the scene, but the heart of our group is conversation and discovery.
