Newham u3a

Members organise their own interest or activity groups. These are small groups of people meeting on a regular basis usually weekly, fortnightly or monthly to study a topic or take part in an activity or interest. Each group has a leader and meetings are usually held in a specific venue.

We are very fortunate that we can use the facilities of Clapton Community Football Club free of charge for some events. Other meetings take place in the group leaders or member’s homes or outside.

Participation in most groups is included in the membership fee, although some groups may have to pay a small amount towards the cost of,  for example, their venue, entrance fees on some visits, theatre tickets etc.

To lead a new group, you do not have to be an expert in the subject area. The u3a is based upon peer-to-peer learning, members all learning together with every person contributing to the learning process. Other groups may be looking into ways to restart activities and if you would like any advice or help with this or starting up a new group, please contact our chair.
