Queen Elizabeth Hunting Lodge
Our visit to the Queen Elizabeth Hunting Lodge in June had to be postponed due to an amber weather warning.
I have now rearranged and you are warmly invited to join us for a visit to Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge on Thursday 15th October 2026.
Built during the reign of Henry VIII, this historic timber-framed lodge was originally used as a grandstand for watching deer hunts in Epping Forest. Today it offers a fascinating glimpse into Tudor life and the history of the forest.
Travel Arrangements
We will meet at Stratford Westfield Bus Station (Bus Stop W) at 10.30am.
From there, we will catch the 97 bus to Chingford Station, followed by a leisurely ten-minute walk to the lodge.
The day
Visit to the Hunting Lodge
Lunch in the picnic area (weather permitting)
Optional walk along the signposted trail through the forest
For the return journey, members may travel back either by bus or by train.
We hope you will be able to join us for what promises to be an enjoyable and interesting day.
