Murky Water: Challenging an Unsustainable System
A talk by Professor Sukhdev Johal
Most of us can see that something has gone wrong with water in England and Wales. Rivers are polluted, pipes leak, bills rise, and floods and droughts are becoming increasingly familiar.
At our October monthly meeting, Professor Sukhdev Johal, co-author of Murky Water: Challenging an Unsustainable System, will explore how decades of decisions about ownership, investment and regulation have contributed to today’s water crisis.
The book argues that privatisation has failed to deliver the long-term investment needed, leaving ageing infrastructure under growing pressure from climate change and demand.
Sukhdev will consider what a more sustainable system might look like, including questions of ownership, funding and accountability.
A timely and thought-provoking subject, with plenty to discuss.
