Speaker: Rosemary Jenkins (Secretary of Newham u3a)
Topic – The French Port of Le Havre
Le Havre is an UNESCO world heritage site
Following devastating carpet bombing destroying 12,500 buildings the bold decision was made to rebuild the city in a modernist style using reinforced concrete. The history leading to this, how it was achieved and the subsequent innovative architectural projects will be presented.
Rosemary has a personal mission to persuade people not to pass through Le Havre but spend a couple of days in this fascinating city.
