Route: Plaistow Station to Wanstead Quaker Meeting House, Bush Road, E11 Distance: Approximately 7½ km/4¾ miles Duration: Approximately 4½ hours, including stops Terrain: Mostly flat pavements, with some more uneven ground across Wanstead Flats and through Epping Forest This is a train-assisted walk, with a train journey between Stratford and Manor Park, so please bring your Freedom Pass or Travelcard What to bring Suitable footwear Water and refreshments Clothing appropriate for the forecast whether that means sun protection or rainwear Your Freedom Pass or Travelcard Toilets should be available in West Ham Park and at the Quaker Meeting House at the end of the walk The walk will go ahead whatever the weather, unless the Met Office advises otherwise or there is serious transport disruption Booking information When booking, please provide the name, mobile number and email address of an emergency contact, having first checked that they are happy for you to share their details With their agreement, these will also be added to our Beacon membership database for use as your emergency contact during future Newham u3a activities On the day, please wear your Newham u3a lanyard We’ll provide a new insert with your name on the front and your emergency contact details tucked discreetly inside If you don’t have a lanyard, just mention this when booking and Gregory will have one ready for you

At a glance

Date: Friday 4 September 2026

Meet: Plaistow Tube Station at 10.30am, ready for a prompt 10.45am start

Remember – ONLY Gregory can be late!

Route: Plaistow Station to Wanstead Quaker Meeting House, Bush Road, E11

Distance: Approximately 7½ km/4¾ miles

Duration: Approximately 4½ hours, including stops

Terrain: Mostly flat pavements, with some more uneven ground across Wanstead Flats and through Epping Forest

This is a train-assisted walk, with a train journey between Stratford and Manor Park, so please bring your Freedom Pass or Travelcard.

We are delighted to announce the next full programme of walks and gallery visits for September/October. All events are £10, no refunds.

The sessions for September/October will launch on Thursday 20th August 2026 from 10.00

All of our walks/gallery visits have proved very popular and been fully booked almost as soon as advertised. So don't delay book up on launch day. There will of course be waiting lists for each session.

As members of Newham U3A you can access all the free events, workshops and talks covering a host of different subjects offered by the National U3A trust.
