U3a Uber boat trip to Putney
2nd July 2026

On 1st July, twenty-three Cultural Explorers enjoyed an Uber Clipper boat trip to Putney. We boarded at Barking Riverside and Royal Wharf in pleasant summer weather and spent the journey taking in some of London’s iconic riverside landmarks, including the Thames Barrier, Greenwich and Tower Bridge.
On arrival in Putney, most of us enjoyed lunch overlooking the Thames. The afternoon offered something for everyone, whether it was a little retail therapy, a stroll along the riverside path, or simply relaxing in the shade by the river and watching the world go by.
The boats do get very busy during the summer months—we shared our outward journey with tiny tots, primary school pupils and a community group—but the boats are excellent value for money. Freedom Pass holders receive almost a 50% discount, and booking online a few weeks in advance can reduce the fare even further.
Overall, it was a wonderful day out, combining great company, beautiful views and a relaxing way to experience London’s famous riverside sights.
