You’ve heard the talk, now do the walk!
Following our recent Newham u3a talk on the Quakers in Newham, Gregory Moffatt will be leading a Quaker Walk on Wednesday 3 June 2026.
Missed the talk? Come and do the walk anyway!
This will be a train-assisted walk of approximately 4km / 2½ miles, starting at Plaistow Station and ending at Wanstead Quaker Meeting House, where we will see the headstone of Elizabeth Fry.
Along the way, we will visit buildings and locations featured in the talk, with Gregory providing brief historical details at various points.
Route
We will walk from Plaistow via West Ham Park to Stratford, where we will catch the Elizabeth Line to Manor Park. From there, we will continue on foot to Wanstead Quaker Meeting House.
Most of the walk will be on pavements. The final quarter is on slightly less even ground, across Wanstead Flats and through part of Epping Forest.
Toilets will be available in West Ham Park and at Wanstead Quaker Meeting House.
Please let Gregory know
If you would like to join the walk, please let Gregory Moffatt know by emailing gregoriojmoffatt@gmail.com.
To aid communication, you may be contacted by email, WhatsApp, sms text message or added to a group list for the Walk.
Further joining details will follow, including the meeting time at Plaistow Station.
Please note
The walk will go ahead unless there are last-minute train strikes on the day, or Met Office weather warnings advising against travel.
Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring water, plus any refreshments you may need. We will not be stopping in Stratford to replenish supplies.
Please also bring your Freedom Pass, Oyster card or contactless payment card for the Elizabeth Line section of the walk.
Whether you heard the talk or not, this is a lovely chance to explore a little more of Newham’s Quaker history together. We hope to see many of you there.
